We are only young once, but we can be immature indefinitely. "You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments when you have truly lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love." --Henry Drummond
Happy
Birthday, Cathy Black!
"The goal of the soul is
ecstasy." Assuming that statement to be what we call
truth, I have found it to be one of my favorites of all
statements and all truths. I have meditated upon it
for years, and I have found it invaluable countless
times in many different types of situations.
Messages from Michael came to me in the 70's or early
80's. I was profoundly affected, and so was Stacey
D. Mills, one of the subjects of this column last month.
She was so impressed that she requested me to get 12
copies for us to use. For the strangest reason I
still do not understand, that was about the only request
Stacey ever made of me which I did not fulfill. We
did make great use of the copies we did have. A
companion statement to the first one is, "The goal of the
soul is to experience all of life." Though sometimes
disturbing and challenging, I have found that one to be
one of the most powerful of all, and it is most
appropriate for this writing.
Nancy
Carolyn Wesner and I were married in May of 1959. We
had a classical life plan. She was to teach school
while I attended graduate school, and then we would begin
a family. Cathy Black had other plans. She had much
to do about a whole lot, and she did not have room for a
seven year delay. [I completed my Ph.D. at the
University of Oklahoma in June of 1967.] I remember
so distinctly that it was a leap year. The first
labor activity began on February 29 but ceased rather
quickly. Cathy Black was born early in the morning
on March 1, 1960, at Hendrick Memorial Hospital in
Abilene, Texas. The Universe and Planet Earth have
been better ever since, and the "beat goes on," continues
to improve with age. The positive experiences and
the sharings of love and happiness which have filled these
42 years are a book in their own right. A few
brief anecdotes will reveal some essence of the subject at
hand.
Cathy
was considering a major in science. She acquired a
temporary position with the Noble Foundation in Ardmore,
Oklahoma. Her assignment was to care for the guinea
pigs for a research project. All went well until her
task included "sacrificing the animals and recording the
data." That experience was the end of Cathy's
"career in science."
Moving
to Santa Barbara, California, from Ardmore, Oklahoma, at
about age 20, she spent the next ten years learning from
her rare and remarkable teacher, Ann Parks, becoming a
master of working with human energy fields and becoming
one of the most sought after massage therapists.
Having successfully completed that, she moved to Taos, New
Mexico, and "did it again." This time she had her
own practice, and she joined the faculty of the Jay
Scherer School of the Healing Arts in Santa Fe.
(There's a lovely website that provides a loving, peaceful
journey concerning healing and massage.) The Santa
Fe group had long wanted a branch in Taos, but the
challenge was very difficult.
Cathy Black accepted the
challenge, and she developed a branch in Taos. It
continued for some time after her departure.
Apparently her powerful presence was required to hold that
particular space. Currently she is enjoying some
sabbatical after 20 years of devotion to the tasks of
serving and growing.
In 1988 Cathy suggested that I become a member of one of
her classes at the School of Intuitive Massge in Santa
Barbara. I was delighted and intrigued with the
suggestion. I enjoyed the three month interval very
much. The graduation session was especially poignant
for everyone. There were "no dry eyes in the house"
as Cathy and I said good bye to this phase of our life
together. One student stated it so well I will quote
her assessment of this situation. She said, "Cathy,
good grief. I am so overwhelmed. I can't even
get my father to talk to me, much less to become a student
and be in class with me."
Now,
you can see why I love the statements about the goals of
the soul and how they have assisted my understanding of
that which often seems inexplicable. Special help
has come from these statements when our relationship has
been challenged by difficulties such as the divorce when
Cathy was 12, the distresses and inconveniences to her
when I have been karmically challenged and when we have
had to wait seemingly too long for ecstasy to arrive.
Recently, Cathy stopped at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix,
and we had a short visit. It was ecstatic for me to
see how well she is doing, to have her understand the
challenges which I am addressing and to know that she
daily visualizes the best for me and countless others.
Who
knows what the next big one is? The next few months
and the next two years will be most interesting as always
as Cathy Black unfolds her plan and expresses her love,
healing and excitement about the human adventure.
Happy Birthday, Beloved Daughter, and may you be as happy
as you have made countless others! Our souls are
experiencing all of life that one can experience from the
roles of Father and Daughter, and the Ecstasy makes it
worth it!
I've learned that you shouldn't compare yourself to others- they are more screwed up than you think... Unknown

Healthful HintsDonna McGrathNatural Sleep Aids For InsomniaMany of my clients this month have complained about tossing and turning, with difficulty sleeping...insomnia. The term “insomnia” is defined as habitual restlessness and sleeplessness, a problem repeated night after night. It can result from stress, persistent unwanted thoughts, muscle aches, chronic pain, sinusitis, hypoglycemia, (low blood sugar), indigestion, and many other varied factors.Physically SpeakingMy favorite remedy to use if I have a slight problem falling asleep is Relax-o-zyme by Enzymatic Therapy. This product is basically a combination of a number of sleep-inducing herbal remedies and supplements…valerian root, chamomile, passionflower, hops, along with calcium and magnesium. I take one or two of these tablets with a warm cup of milk and honey before bed and it produces a comfy, cozy feeling, allowing me to gently fall asleep. I use warm milk because in the action of warming milk, the amino acids in the milk protein break down, producing a natural form of tryptophan, which induces sleep.Any of the above herbs can be taken alone to promote sleep and relaxation and may be purchased separately in capsule form from Nature’s Way. Valerian Root is the most popular singley-used herb for sleep promotion, however, be aware that it is similar to valium in molecular structure and thus, sometimes, promotes strange dreams when taken in large doses. Taken as a tea, it tastes somewhat nasty… this is why I prefer the above Relax-o-zyme combination product! It contains all the sleep-inducing herbs in balanced proportions, along with the added minerals calcium and magnesium, which work to promote muscle relaxation.A product, which has become popular in the last few years, is 5-HTP. 5-HTP is a supplement, which, when metabolized by the body, breaks down to the amino acid tryptophan. Tryptophan was taken off the market several years ago by the FDA because one lot of it from one company was contaminated. By taking 5-HTP, one can get the similar sleep-promoting effects of tryptophan naturally.Melatonin is a hormone, which is used to promote sleep, as well as, aids in cases of jet lag. The normal adult dosage is 3 mgs taken ˝ hour before bed, but some take up to 9-12 mgs / night. Good products are Melatonin by Natrol or Twin Labs. Twin labs carries smaller dosage forms, which can be used by people with smaller frames, teens, or for those with very mild cases of insomnia. Look for time-released Melatonin for cases where there is difficulty remaining asleep. I personally do not use melatonin because it is a hormone and find that it may interrupt the delicate hormonal balance of the system. However, many of my clients swear by it.Emotionally SpeakingIf you find that sleeplessness occurs because of too many persistent unwanted thoughts rolling around in your head, a few drops of the Bach Flower essence White Chestnut, may be used to quell an overactive mind. If the thoughts are over-worrying or over concern for the welfare of others, the essence Red Chestnut may be tried. If there is a lack of sleep due to severe indigestion, the flower essence Star of Bethlehem may be used by topically rubbing between the breastbones. Concurrently with Star of Bethlehem, the flower essence Pine may be rubbed directly under the diaphragm for severe cases of acid reflux.Insomnia is often caused by anxiety. Please look up my previous article on Natural Remedies for Anxiety-The Fear Response from last year’s Streaming News Archives. Kava Kava Root by Reliance Vitamins, GABA by Twin Labs or Anti-Anxiety from Enzymatic Therapy are my favorite remedies.Spiritually SpeakingSkullcap by Nature’s Way is an excellent herb, which can be used to induce sleep and relaxation. Metaphysically speaking…skullcap opens up the seventh chakra to allow for better inception of spiritual messages. I use it before I do intense channeling or when I know I am going to do many readings at a show. Many of my clients have been experiencing difficulty sleeping. This can be viewed as a bad thing or simply as the mark of an advancing spiritual soul. Many masters do not ever sleep, but remain in a constant state of enlightened conscious awareness. The ethers are thinner between the hours of 1 am to 4 am, therefore, clear spiritual messages can be heard by the spiritually attuned. Perhaps you may spend this time reading, meditating in a hot bath filled with the relaxing essential oils geranium, ylang ylang, lavender, and chamomile.Take care and many blessings to you for a relaxing good nights sleep…Sweet Dreams, Angelic Peace, and Eternal Love and Light.Donna McGrathI will be lecturing on my book, Corporate Mentality to Spiritual Reality at the San Francisco New Age Expo on April 26,27, 28th with LightStream Productions. I will be available for private psychic readings and consultations, nutritional intuitive readings and contacting the deceased.I very much look forward to seeing you all there. +++
