Pains from the Past

How many times have the memories and pains from the past interfered with our futures? Statistics show the inability to let go of past fears, troubles and memories have marred countless intelligent, loving achievers and transformed them into dysfunctional, embittered, or emotionally impaired individuals. Many which have fallen victim to this malady have shown obvious signs of trauma by becoming under achievers, yet there are also many victims who are represented in these statistics as being either successful or over-achievers as well.

In communicating with numerous individuals who have been the victims of someone’s transgressions, I have discovered a few will lose their grasp on the reality of the situation or incident that occurred. Countless people who have been beaten or raped have long-term effects from their detailed recollections. They discover, whether it is present at waking or by some other precursor, that certain events will bring to mind an unpleasant incident that was committed against them. Their meticulous memory will then replay this act, which was pulled from their memory and will include the smell, the sights, the emotions, and the sounds that happened at that very moment in time when another person committed this offense against them.

At the point in time the above-mentioned rape took place, the perpetrator had taken control of the victim’s life and committed acts against her that inflicted severe emotional and/or physical damage. It is my belief, by allowing the retention of these memories and the recall of them, the victims are allowing the perpetrator to damage them emotionally and mentally, thus allowing them to inhibit their ability to achieve success in all areas of their life. This act is actually doing more damage to them then the person did when they inflicted this trauma on them. The original rape or act happened to them once and by allowing them to experience again the actual event that transpired; they are in essence repeatedly committing this act upon themselves by allowing their mind to return to that point in time in such immense detail. By understanding this concept, the victims will become conscious of the actuality that they have given someone’s crime against them energy or a life of its own to ruin their future and their happiness. I truly believe that at the comprehension of this realism, they will want to dispose of this aptitude of total and conscious recall, which will enable them to achieve control over their life and the path their future will take.

One might bristle at the sound of simplicity this recommended course of action appears to imply within the contents of this transcript. However, in real life, this could not be further from the truth since I fully recognize the strength it employs to enact a task that incorporates the difficult task of controlling ones mind and its thought processes. In actuality, it will probably be the most difficult and challenging task that one will ever endeavored to accomplish within the sum of their life. In addition, I stress there is no course of action, treatment, or miracle cure which is successful or compatible with everyone. Within each person a different heart will beat, a different spirit will radiate, and a different mind will think in a very different direction.

Although I have used rape as an example in the above paragraph, there are countless ways people can be traumatized by the actions of others. Divorces, infidelity, breach of trust, physical and verbal abuse, molestation, car accidents, and assault are just a small number of entries on an unimaginably extensive list of maltreatments that has the aptitude to inflict life-altering reactions within someone’s existence. What is life altering to one human being may not affect another, nevertheless remember that if it distresses you – then it is relevant.

There are certain steps and courses of action that will be implemented with whichever therapeutic curriculum anyone undertakes. I will list a few avenues to be considered when attempting to regain control of their life, however it must be noted that just as there are numerous events, which can cause trauma, there are also numerous techniques in conquering it. Sometimes certain procedures cannot be accomplished on ones own and assistance from trained professionals may be needed. One should not hesitate to request assistance when they feel the techniques being tried are not achieving the desired effect.

Deep Meditation, guided or solitary, has been immensely supportive in relieving symptoms of total recall with innumerable people. Because I have witnessed and assisted victims in this particular type of technique’s implementation, I have compiled my personal version onto an instructional CD. In addition, another successful method, hypnosis, has been extremely successful in finding subconscious triggers that will divert the detailed recall of the event. However, many find there is no replacement for the one on one therapy a licensed mental health Care Provider has to offer.

It doesn’t matter which method is incorporated as long as it ultimately restores control of the victim’s life back into his or her own hands. I believe the first step comes with the realization more damage is caused by consistently allowing memories to once more inflict the intense pain upon them. Once this concept is grasped and integrated into their conscious and subconscious, I believe the inner strength they once possessed will emerge for them to take back their life.
