Founder and Spiritual Director
Agape International Spiritual Center
|
In 1986, Dr.
Beckwith’s inner vision revealed a world united on an ethical basis of
humankind’s highest spiritual and social development. As founder and
spiritual director of the Agape International Spiritual Center—one of
the most rapidly expanding transdenominational spiritual communities
with a membership 9000 strong and 35, 000 friends worldwide—his goal
remains the same: to build community, locally and globally.
Dr. Beckwith’s
renown as a harbinger of the world’s quest for peace has drawn into
his visionary orbit individuals whose names are synonymous with this
goal. Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mohandas K. Gandhi, shares with Dr.
Beckwith the National Co-directorship of “A Season for Nonviolence,”
an organization that promotes and teaches the principles of
nonviolence embodied by the great Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. His commitment as a world citizen is evidenced by his
position as founding member and President of the Association for
Global New Thought, convening organization of the annual Synthesis
Dialogues with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and as an elected Assembly
Member of the Parliament of the World’s Religions. In a personal
letter about his dedication, Coretta Scott King recently wrote, “I
greatly admire what you are doing to bring about the Beloved
Community, which is certainly what my dear husband worked for and
ultimately gave his life.”
A sought-after
meditation teacher, Dr. Beckwith is the author of Forty Day Mind
Fast-Soul Feast, and A Manifesto of Peace. He and Rickie
Byars Beckwith are co-authors of a catalogue of over 120 songs
performed in many parts of the world popularly known as the Sound of
Agape. His humanitarian activities have attracted to him and Agape
International accolades from many civic leaders and organizations,
just a few of which include: 2001 Gandhi-King-Ikeda Award from
Morehouse College; 2000 Thomas Kilgore Prophetic Witness Award from
the Southern Christian Leadership; 1999 Induction into the Assembly of
the Parliament of the World’s Religions; 1999 Humanitarian Award from
the National Conference for Compassion and Justice, and a Doctorate in
Religious Science from the United Church of Religious Science in 2003.

AGAPE
Rev.
Dr. Michael Beckwith held a visioning meeting in his home with
approximately 20 people in attendance. The purpose of this meeting was to
become, in consciousness, the kind of church they would want to attend.
Today, Agape is a spiritual community of God with outreach
programs that care for the Agape community, the community of the city,
country, and the world.
The Agape Church is one of the largest multicultural
churches of its kind in the United States. Walking into a service at Agape
is like walking into the United Nations. |
