Twilight Brigade Seeking to Meet Dying Veterans’ Needs

Volunteer Group Launches New Website, Fall Fund-Raising Campaign

 

Los Angeles, CA – The Twilight Brigade, Compassion in Action, a not-for-profit corporation whose programs train volunteers and place them in service roles to provide support and reassurance to those facing terminal illnesses, announces the launch of its new website and Fall fund raising campaign.

 

“According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, America’s veterans are dying at an alarming rate, 56,000 per month, including about 1,200 World War II veterans a day. Recognizing an unmet need, the Twilight Brigade has made its highest priority establishing chapters across the country to assist local VA centers by providing volunteers specifically trained for end-of-life care service,” said Dannion Brinkley, Twilight Brigade founder and Chairman.  “In seven years, we have trained more than 5,000 people, but the need is much greater.”

 

At The Twilight Brigade’s core is recognition of the dying as one of society’s most unrecognized and under-served minorities. These tireless volunteers work hard to change how individuals near the end of life are often ignored, discounted, misunderstood, and ultimately forgotten.

 

The Twilight Brigade’s website will provide a new forum for the public to seek answers to questions on end of life care and bereavement, while making it easier for volunteers to share material and communicate.  “This [website] will be a great tool in our efforts to deliver community and professional education that increases the acceptance of death and dying as a natural life process, and advocating the critical need for quality end-of-life care,” said Brinkley.

 

The Twilight Brigade provides its services free of charge, and relies solely on the generosity of individual donors and fund raising to cover all expenses for training volunteers, educational programs, and operations.  Referring to The Twilight Brigade’s new online donation system, Brinkley commented, “Even the most modest donation can make a world of difference to someone facing the end of their life.  The vets were there for us.  We must be there for them! ”

 

The Twilight Brigade is also registered in the Combined Federal Campaign (The CFC # is 1058.)  Federal employees may make donations through this program.
